In-Progress Markers
Today was a very busy day for me! I finished inking page 11 of Good Fortunes, pencilling page 12, and even thumbnailed page 13 – then I laid in the pencils for my Two Sisters cover. But, that’s not what I’m going to be showing you guys today – today I’m showing you a marker piece I’ve been slowly picking at for the last few weeks.

I’m experimenting with adding in grays and other colors underneath my main colors. I’m using a ‘dull ivory’ as the under-markers for this one for the most part. I prefer copic markers because of their blendability, but I have a small set of trias too – I will say that the one thing that really makes trias great is that they have this tiny little tip that copics just don’t have.
My favorite copic trick is to touch the tips of the two colors you’re trying to blend together – dark to light. The light one will absorb a little bit of the darker color and blend out as you pull it across the paper. Amazing. You can do the same thing with the copic blender, but I think the results are a lot smoother with two colors. I also mix some of my own colors with copic refills and empty markers (you can buy them as accessories in good art stores, or online), but there are so few blended colors that I use ALL the time that it’s really not worth doing for all the colors.
Tomorrow is my going away party, and then next week Saturday I’ll be hopping on a plane to California for a short weekend pit stop before making my way to Japan. There’s still so much to do, but everything is going pretty well. Anyhow, I’d probably best get to bed if I want to get an early start tomorrow. Night all!
