Arts

Q: What are your influences?
A: I love comics and animation, obviously, I have a strong Japanese and European influence on my style, but I grew up with American comics as well. I apprenticed in my Godfather’s studio, and I’m also a big fan of Alphonse Mucha and James Coleman.

Q: What tools do you use?
A: I prefer drawing with mechanical pencil, and inking by hand with a combination of croquill, technical pens and brush with black magic ink on Strathmore plate Bristol board. I use masking fluid, paper towels and a toothbrush to do special ink effects (how fancy!). For color I use both watercolors and Copic markers. I also have a Wacom tablet and Adobe Creative Suite 5.

Q: What about for kanzashi?
A: I use white silk habotai and jacquard silk dye and dye set concentrate to create the various colored petals and leaves. I also use spray starch, tweezers, rice glue, faux flower stamens, chip board, chiyogami paper, and a wide variety of jewelry findings.

Q: What kind of education do you have in the Arts?
A: I have always loved art class. My Mom liked to arrange still life scenes for me to draw as a child. As a teenager I apprenticed in my Godfather’s studio, and eventually I graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design with a degree in Sequential Art. I think education is a great tool, but the best education comes from a desire to improve and a great deal of practice.

Gaming

Q: What got you into gaming?
A: My friends all love gaming. They finally convinced me to try Minecraft after I came home from Japan in 2011, which eventually led to trying MMOs. I don’t consider myself a hardcore or even particularly skilled gamer, but I enjoy the camaraderie of my guildies. As for roleplay, I’ve been a tabletop role player since I was a child. I only got into online roleplay a few years ago when one of my friends (the same friend who introduced me to Minecraft!) introduced me to FiveM (Grand Theft Auto V) roleplay via Twitch – specifically, the streamer DasMehdi during his original run on the character Lil’ Tuggz.

Q: What servers/guilds are you on/with?
A: I don’t play many MMOs at the moment, but when I do it’s usually with Kwisatz Haderach, my guild from Guild Wars 2. For the squid! Right now, I mostly play RedM (Red Dead Redemption 2) and FiveM (GTAV) roleplay on a server called Prodigy. I also play enjoy the occasional single play run of Anno 1800 or Stardew Valley.
