With the month of January coming to a close, I’m feeling content. My goal for this year was to have at least one blog post on this blog every month, and today’s post makes five posts in just the month of January. Looking at my schedule I already have posts ready to go for five more months as well. So, ending the month of January with having half my goal for the year complete is very satisfying. I can only hope that I’ll be able to continue this pace, and keep bringing you guys more completed projects.
Speaking of projects, I’m happy to share this week’s project – a purple plum and chrysanthemum hair pin, reminiscent of the set that I presented in last week’s post. When I completed that project, I realized that I had quite a bit of fabric left over.
That’s when I decided to use up as much of the left over fabric as I could – creating not just this piece but several others, which I’ll be sharing as they become seasonally relevant. 🙂 Since kanzashi traditionally follow a seasonal calendar, I wanted to try and have new pieces appear on my blog in the season that they are meant to be worn – although, not all the projects I do are kanzashi related.
I also have been making an effort to stop holding onto findings because they feel precious; sometimes I resist using bits and bobs that I have on hand for years at a time, because I am afraid I’ll run out of those particular findings or because I haven’t found the project that felt right for it. Well, I included a silver bira-bira in this piece, which I’ve had for longer than I ought to have, and it feels good to see it finally becoming part of something.
Which reminds me – if you would like to have one of my pieces become part of your collection, this piece is now available in the shop – along with many of the other pieces that I’ve posted about on the blog this month! While I could have posted these to the shop weekly, I thought it would be more fun to have them all become available at once – along with a few surprise pieces that haven’t appeared in the blog.
Have a look at the shop and let me know what you think!
And if there’s any kanzashi or craft projects that you’re hoping to see in the future, I’d love to hear about it. While a lot of my projects for this year have already been planned out and are being worked on with the support of a production grant from Creative Saskatchewan, I am always looking for new ideas.
Thank you so much to Creative Saskatchewan for supporting my creative endeavors, and to all my dear readers for sticking with me!
If you want to see more of my work check back again next week for more craft chill updates – or follow me on Instagram!
