2024 was a year of high highs and low lows. In a way, my life was on hold for a big chunk of the year as I struggled through cancer treatment and recovery. But, as the year comes to a close I can’t help but feel grateful; I am alive and set backs are just that – a set back. A temporary pause.
But, although I have had set backs this year, that doesn’t mean that I’ve been idle. It might seem like that from the lack of updates to this blog, but the truth is that I’ve been completing as many projects as I can – though, as always, not as many projects as I would have hoped.
All of the projects I’ve been working on have been building toward making 2025 the year of resurgence for me. One goal I’ve always had – which I’ve never been able to achieve – is to have weekly updates on this blog. To publish 52 projects in 52 weeks. I’ve come to the realization that that’s a bit much for me.
But, I don’t think it’s impossible to publish one new project a month. So, that’s my goal for next year. 12 projects in 12 months, with a concentration on completing projects that have long been lingering on my to do list. 12 months of finshing…dangerously! Or maybe not so dangerously, haha. Handicrafts aren’t a particularly risky activity.
One of the things I’m most looking forward to is the development of an artistic project that revolves around our dog, Shinyu – although I probably won’t be able to dedicate time to that until near the end of the year, as I need to concentrate on fulfilling my production grant for Creative Sasaktchewan. Shinyu has been such a joy in my life, even if he is an emotional terrorist who likes to eat holes in the walls. You can see more pictures of Shinyu and follow his adventures on his Instagram. Yes, that’s right; I’m one of those people who has an Instagram for their dog.
Anyhoo, that is all I’ve got for this week. I hope you’ll check back in next week for more arts, crafts and the start of my year of getting things done!
