It wouldn’t be winter if I wasn’t working on pieces that feature the friends of winter – plum blossoms, bamboo and pine. I won’t lie, plum blossoms are probably my favorite of the three. Although I am trying to expand my repertoire of motifs, the progress is slow – as I also need to produce many of my old standards in order to complete my production grant.
These pieces are one of my old standards, of course. Three plum blossoms with sprigs of accompanying foliage. I created a number of these in slightly different color variations – a mix of pinks, purples and reds.

While production work does get a bit grating on me as I’m going through it, there is something very satisfying about looking back on all the pieces that I’ve managed to complete so far. The work does still feel a bit daunting – which I think is a big contributor to the burn out I experienced this summer. The sheer volume of the work – even though I am more than halfway through – feels like an impossible task.
Thankfully I’ve gotten past the burn out, at least for now, and have started pushing through again. Of the 731 pieces I needed to complete at the start, I now have 218 left. I’m hoping that over the next week or so that will be under 200. It’s a very achieveable goal, since most of the pieces left to complete are small, single-flower lapel pins.

Like many of the pieces I’ve been working on this year, this piece was made possible by a production grant from Creative Saskatchewan – who were kind enough to support the production of over 500 new works of tsumami craft made by me. I can’t express enough how grateful I am for their support. If you’ve ever wanted to support an arts organization, I can’t recommend Creative Saskatchewan enough.
Anyhoo, that is all I’ve got for today. I hope to see you guys again next week with more crafty creative projects.
