The past few months have been a bit of a slow period for me, art wise. I’m not going to lie, I burned myself out. My goal had been to complete as much of the smaller pieces on my production list as I could before buckling down to work on larger projects for the Saskatchewan Wearable Art Gala this fall. But, my timeline came and went and I was not able to start my larger projects in the time frame that I needed to.
So, I just kind of lost momentum and my focus petered out, and what was supposed to be a two week break turned into a two month break.

In that time I also attended some events, like Pop Con YXE and Ganbatte Con, so thanks to everyone who came out and picked up something from me at those events! I love attending local events, and it’s always a good time getting to meet people who are interested in Japanese arts and crafts.
Anyway, I’ve accepted that I just won’t have these big projects done in time for the Gala this year, and now that I’ve come to terms with this it’s been a little easier to work on art again. I’m also still working my way through the existing stock of pieces and trying to get my Etsy shop cleaned up.

These bellflower hair pins are my go-to flower for the month of September. I often do them in two-tone white and purple, but I had quite a lot of fabric in shades of purple, so I decided to go with solid purple shades in an effort to use my existing stock of fabric instead of having to do more dye work.
This piece, like many of the pieces I’ve been working on this year, was made possible by a production grant from Creative Saskatchewan – who were kind enough to support the production of over 500 new works of tsumami craft made by me. I can’t express enough how grateful I am for their support.
If you’ve ever wanted to support an arts organization, I can’t recommend Creative Saskatchewan enough.
Anyway, that is all I’ve got for today. I hope to see y’all again next week with more crafty projects.
