Daisy Bell is one of those songs that, for some reason, gets stuck in my head all. the. time. I often find myself humming to song as I work.
So, one day as I was humming this insidious ear worm, I thought to myself…it would be kind of cute to make a mini collection themed on the song Daisy Bell. Then, I bought a miniature bicycle built for two to use what I dreamed of as a boater-hat style fascinator with lots of tsumami-zaiku daisies.
That day, unfortunately, was about 10 years ago now, and the miniature two-person bicycle has been sitting idle in my collection of materials….until now.
Although, you’ll have to wait for a bit for the big reveal of the boater hat, because this week I’m here to show off the first two pieces in this mini collection – the Daisy Bell Hair Pin and Daisy Bell Comb.

Daisies are not one of my particular favorite flowers – I tend more toward sweet smelling or frilly looking flowers – but they remind me of my grandma, whose favorite color is yellow. She loves all things bright and cheerful, and the daisies in this collection are yellow or white and yellow as a tribute to her.
Since this is the Daisy Bell collection, I also wanted to ensure that each piece in this collection features one or more bells. Bells are not an uncommon feature in kanzashi – often appearing at the bottom of sagari. For the hair pin, I did make some sagari and thought that would be the perfect place to feature the bells in that piece, whereas the bells in the comb are at the ends of the mizuhiki swirls.

I also added a bow made of lace to the Daisy Bell Comb. I feel like it gives it a hint of sweet, innocent romance – which is what the song Daisy Bell always reminds me of – and touches on the vintage east meets west feel of the taisho roman style.
Anyhoo, that is all I’ve got for today. I hope to see you guys again next week with more crafty creative projects.
Next week we’ll be having a look at another popular summer motif – the clematis – but be sure to check back in a few weeks when I share with y’all the exciting conclusion of my Daisy Bell Mini Collection!
Ok, so it might not be ‘exciting’ exactly, but I’m excited about it anyway! With the way the world is, it’s good to have something to be excited about – even if it’s something small. Like the the cheerfulness of the color yellow.
